Cole began his career in 1987 in the magazine publishing industry, designing magazine pages and writing ad copy. “Web design” in 2021 has evolved to become very similar to magazine design, where each piece of content and copy is carefully designed to lead the visitor through a journey, a sales funnel that results in visitors converting to customers.

It’s mobile first and platform agnostic

According to Statista, 54.8% of global website traffic comes from a mobile device, and the analytics data of client sites aligns with that. We build your site to provide an excellent user experience on mobile phones, tablets, laptop and desktop computers. On pages we design and build, we test each page layout on Mac OS and Windows computers, Apple iOS (iPhone and iPad) and Android mobile devices. And then we test each page layout in Edge, Safari, Firefox and Chrome browsers.

It’s flexible and scalable

Based upon your customer journey, sales funnel, and the content you will be presenting to your users, we will identify the page layouts and other tools we’ll need to build or assemble to deliver that content most effectively. Our design will make it easy to create your content, including complex landing pages, or e-commerce products. Your site will also be designed so that it can grow to where it needs to go over the next few years.

It’s fast loading

We do our best to deliver a really fast-loading site, for the best user experience. This is an area where the client’s wish list can often make a difference, and we will advise against using certain plugin extensions that can add significantly to code bloat and reduce your site’s performance. We believe in an “only what you need” approach to building blazingly quick websites.

It’s custom built just for you

A custom website design, developed from the grid up just for you, is the only way to truly tailor your site for your unique business objectives, while providing the best user experience for your visitors.

We prefer to stay clear of generic off-the-shelf templates. In order to meet the requirements of many different layouts and designs, most of the popular themes suffer from severe ‘code bloat’, which can make your site load slowly, particularly on mobile devices. Also, off-the-shelf themes can be very limiting, where the software vendor decides what you can and cannot have.

It’s easy to use, with personal training

Your WordPress pages, posts or products can be virtually as easy to create and update as a Word document.

There are hundreds of thousands of software options and combinations for building out a WordPress website. Many web designers just install a generic WordPress tutorial solution in the dashboard. The potential problem is, those training libraries were screencast on another website, and won’t always reflect the software ‘stack’ and configurations used in your unique website.

Therefore, we prefer to screencast custom tutorial videos, made in the WordPress dashboard of your own website, just for you, covering all the basic edits and content additions you are likely to make on your site, step-by-step.

We’re also just a phone call, text or email away, if you have a question about making edits to your site.

There’s ongoing maintenance available

Many web designers and developers build the sites to be handed off for any future maintenance, with developer notes for future webmasters. That’s not us.

We are in the business of building long term relationships. We have provided ongoing webmaster services to our clients for over 24 years. We offer a WordPress Care service to you with a very preferential hourly rate.

It’s secure, and built to last

We build WordPress websites to be secure. To remain secure, they need regular backups and software updates, and at times, some tweaks to the security software and CSS code.

We recommend having these completed monthly by us, as part of the WordPress Care webmaster services we offer. However, there are managed hosting and other automated 3rd party solutions that can take care of backups and even software updates, if you prefer.

We build our sites to last a long time. We try to only use premium plugin extensions in our client sites, so they will be supported for a very long time. (Full disclosure; there have been times when the customer wanted a unique feature, and we took a calculated chance on an extension we didn’t have experience with, to fulfill that request.)

A well built WordPress site, like a quality car, can run for quite a few years if it’s properly maintained.

BRAINSTORM

We like to begin any new website with a discovery / brainstorming process. It’s important for us to understand your business, desired outcomes and the target audience. We then move to the wireframing / prototyping stage of the design, mapping out your site’s flow and sales funnel strateg

DESIGN

Once we’ve established how we’re going to attract the ideal buyers to your website, and our conversion strategy for turning those visitors into leads and customers, we can create mood boards and design mockups for your approval.

BUILD

When we’re agreed on exactly what we’re building, we’ll begin the development phase. After all the menus and shell pages have been created, we’ll take a navigation walk-through, and then we can begin any copywriting and populating the pages with content.

Following the launch, it’s time to begin marketing your site, rolling out our SEO and content marketing strategy, to attract potential buyers to your site and engage them in your sales funnel.

Not every website project has all these steps, due to budget considerations and client priorities, but for maximum results, this is the process we recommend.

Frequently asked questions

Can I create most of my website pages myself?

Yes, you will be able to add more pages and blog posts. If you order the Professional, Business or Enterprise package, they include custom screencast tutorial training videos and email/phone support. You will receive complete training. Your proposal/contract will include all the details.

Unlike the majority of the other web design firms, who simply provide links to generic how-to videos online, we take the time to go through each common in-house procedure in your unique WordPress dashboard, teaching you step-by-step how to add and edit your own content. Most users find it about as easy as using Microsoft Word™.  Your tutorial videos will be custom tailored to your company’s needs. You will be able to re-watch your training video(s) as many times as needed over the years to come.

Note: Where we’re building out a marketing strategy, with landing pages, content, copy and sales funnels we have built, we recommend against DIY in-house design.

What are the advantages of Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)?

Our Professional, Business and Enterprise packages include an Advanced Custom Fields license and integration with ACF. Most “web design” is actually the design and layout of its individual pages in a sales funnel or customer’s journey. We are able to protect the design of your pages by creating ‘editable fields’. This enables you to login, select the page you wish to edit from the left sidebar menu and edit the specified images, videos and text within each page, without the risk of breaking the page design or altering the way it displays across devices and platforms. Editing the custom fields is easy and can be learned in minutes from the supplied tutorial videos, and your site is virtually unbreakable.

Page builders and Gutenberg blocks, in contrast, provide total design control over your content. You become the designer and sales funnel architect. There can be a stiff learning curve involved, before it’s possible to safely edit and style page content, while retaining the integrity of each individual page layout and design, across a wide range of devices and browser platforms. We’ve seen page layouts that took us many hours by to design and build out “undesigned” to a broken mess within only minutes by someone trying to learn how to use a page builder or set of Gutenberg blocks.

In the interest of ease of use and maintaining the style and integrity of the site’s design and responsive architecture, we prefer offering custom fields to our clients. When landing and conversion pages have been designed as components of the customers’ journey that leads to conversion and the onboarding of new clients, we believe that it’s important to retain the content, copy and design layouts we’re tracking in your sales performance analytics. In other words, when there’s a sales funnel strategy in place, it’s different from the majority of the websites that have no marketing strategy, sales funnels or analytics, and therefore employ client-designed DIY layouts and content.

Can I choose a different page builder solution?

Our Professional, Business and Enterprise packages include full integration with Advanced Custom Fields. ACF has proven to be the most reliable, rock solid and foolproof solution for website owners to add and edit their own content, without the concern of breaking the page layouts or website core. ACF also does not add the code bloat (‘code bloat’ makes the site load slower and can negatively impact search engine rankings) often associated with popular page builders. Advanced Custom Fields is included with these packages, and there is no additional charge.

That being said, we have been receiving client requests for installation of one of the popular page builder solutions instead. We will be happy to install one of these drag-and-drop page builders: Beaver Builder, Brizy, Divi Builder, Elementor, SiteOrigin, Themify Builder, Visual Composer or WP Bakery Page Builder. Some of these have a free version, while others charge a modest annual fee for the pro version.

An alternative to a page builder is one of the advanced sets of Gutenberg blocks, like Kadence Pro, Stackable Premium or Qubely Pro. Again, these have a free version, and charge a modest annual fee for their pro version upgrade.

We don’t charge anything extra for installing and configuring one of the above 3rd party page builders or block sets instead of Advanced Custom Fields. We need to know about any page builder/blocks switch at the very beginning of the project, before we build your site around ACF.

If there are any software costs associated with the page builder or blocks set you’ve chosen, those licenses can be purchased by you directly from the respective vendor. (We will need the license key forwarded to us by email, for insertion into the software, and login access so we can download your paid plugin software.) If you want us to create custom training videos for the 3rd party page builder solution you select instead, that’s available as a project add-on.

How long does it take to build a website?

For the Freelance package, we’re usually able to deliver your website within 10 days from the start date. The Professional, takes between 2 and 3 weeks (14 – 21 calendar days) to complete. Our most popular, the Business package, takes 1 month to a month and a half (30 – 45 calendar days, and the Enterprise will involve 8 weeks or more (60+  calendar days) to plan, design and develop.

It’s important to confirm our availability and scheduled start date, and estimated delivery date, in the proposal/contract we send out. If we require materials from you, like photos, video and text, your deliverables will have a bearing on our completion date, and the dates when we require these items from you, in order to meet our delivery dates, will be clearly specified in the proposal/contract.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, on the Professional and Business packages, we offer a financing option. We require 1/3 (33.3%) down payment, and the rest (66.7%) of the website can be financed interest free over 12 months. All of the details will be in the proposal/contract you receive, if you request the financing option.

All websites require hosting. On a financed plan we will set up A2 Turbo Boost hosting for you for one year at $6.99/mo USD; and it’s added to your 33.3% initial installment. You will be able to access the backend of your website with Editor access during the first year, add and edit your content.

Upon completion of the 1 year term, all of the Administrator logins will be handed over as well, and you can host the site wherever you like. Alternately, you can request the buy-out balance for the remainder of your contract at any time.
